Atelier Favela is located in the social centre of João Fernandes where a variety of cultural initiatives are based.

Circo na Comunidade is a partner of Atelier Favela in the working method against social exclusion. They work within the disciplines Capoeira, Circus, Gymnastics, Jongo, Afro Dance, and Samba. Together we try to reach the youth from the favelas to challenge them to change their own position.

Other cultural initiatives that are located in the social centre are the Ballet school of Santa Teresa, the montly arts & crafts market ‘Mercado das Pulmas’, the bookstore l ‘Largo das Letras’, and the theatre group of Santa Teresa.
